Dyck Arboretum of the Plains at Hesston College seeks Grounds Manager.

General Function: The Arboretum Grounds Manager will work under the supervision of the arboretum director to maintain the grounds and facilities. Areas of emphasis include the plant collections, displays, and hardscape of the Dyck Arboretum of the Plains so they reflect the highest quality of horticultural practice. The Arboretum Grounds Manager will work with volunteers and/or seasonal employees to accomplish all the stated goals and objectives of this position and other duties as assigned by the director.  

Specific Goals and Objectives:

• Maintain woody and herbaceous plant collections through appropriate horticultural practices to best display individual plant characteristics.
• Maintain turf areas at aesthetically acceptable levels with minimal inputs.
• Maintain hardscape of the Arboretum to maximize longevity and visitor usage, and to reduce hazards to visitors and employees
• Maintain equipment in good working condition to minimize repairs and maximize efficiency
• Assist in the development of new garden features that reflect the Arboretum’s mission.
• Propagate and produce plant materials for use in Arboretum plantings and special events/plant sales.

This is a part time seasonal position of approximately 30 hours per week with a start date of March 1 through December 1. Consideration of applications will begin after February 20, 2013 until position is filled.
